Changing the health conversation

Wallaceburg Coun. Carmen McGregor and Dr. April Rietdyk, Chatham-Kent’s General Manager of Community Human Services, will lead a discussion entitled ‘Our Health: How Are We Doing?’ on Monday, May 7.

The forum will take place in Council Chambers at the Civic Centre at 6 p.m. It will raise issues and promote discussion concerning the state of chronic disease in Chatham-Kent and how health can enhance the quality of life in the community.

Speakers include Chris Sherman, the Program Manager for Chronic Disease and Injury Prevention with Chatham-Kent Public Health and Dr. Dean Kriellaars, an expert in physical literacy.

Dr. Kriellaars is a faculty member of the College of Rehabilitation Sciences of the Faculty of Health Sciences at the University of Manitoba and a scientist of the Manitoba Children’s Health Research Institute.

His Human Performance Laboratory has numerous students directed to undertaking research on physical literacy and physical activity, related to health, performance, injury prevention and treatment.

He has earned provincial and national recognition and works with Sport for Life, PHE Canada, the Sport Medicine and Science Council of Manitoba, Canadian Centre for Substance Abuse, Cirque du Soleil and the National Circus School, as well as the RCMP on community wellness initiatives.
