87 tickets given for ‘illegal turns’ in Chatham

(Chatham-Kent Police Service)

Last week, the Chatham-Kent Police Traffic Unit directed their attention to the area of Grand Avenue West and Lacroix Street where construction is currently underway at this intersection.

Police officials say prior to commencing the road construction, several platforms were utilized to notify the public of the ongoing project, expected delays and temporary traffic modifications.

Additionally, multiple signage units were placed in the area notifying approaching motorists of the prohibited turns at the intersection.

As a result of this traffic enforcement initiative, 87 motorists were stopped and charged with making illegal turns.

CKPS Traffic Sergeant Matt Stezycki says the enforcement and education conducted served multiple purposes.

“Our officers directed their attention to this area, to first and foremost ensure the safety and wellbeing of the construction workers, and secondly to assist in maintaining the flow of traffic through appropriate driver actions,” Stezycki said in a press release.

“We will continue to monitor the area, with the goal of ensuring the safety of those involved and those travelling on our roadways.”

The Chatham-Kent Police Service reminds everyone that this intersection is clearly marked.

Please obey the posted signs for everyone’s safety.
