Impaired driver charged, another caught with speed warning device

A La Salle man face impaired driving charges after being stopped in Chatham-Kent.

OPP officials allege: On May 4, 2018, around 10:30 a.m., a Chatham-Kent Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) member while on general patrol on Dillon Road when they observed a motor vehicle committing a traffic violation.

Members conducted a traffic stop and while speaking with the driver, the officer determined the driver had consumed alcohol.

The driver was transported to detachment for further tests.

Upon further investigation, the male driver, a 34-year-old from La Salle, Ontario, was charged with drive motor vehicle with more than 80 milligrams of alcohol in blood, contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada.

The accused is required to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on May 25, 2018 to answer to the charge.

Chatham-Kent Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is actively monitoring the “Big 4” driving behaviours; impaired driving, speeding, distracted driving, and seatbelt usage.

In a separate incident, OPP officials allege that on May 7, around 2:15 a.m., a Chatham-Kent Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer was on general patrol, on Highway 401 near Communication Road, when they observed a vehicle committing a traffic violation.

The vehicle was stopped and upon further investigation, the male driver, a 25-year-old from Mississauga, Ontario was charged with drive motor vehicle with speed measuring warning device, contrary to the Highway Traffic Act.
