Man bitten by stray dog in Chatham

Animal control officials are reaching out to the public, after an unknown dog attacked a male in the East end of Chatham on Thursday, May 3.

Jason Hamm, manager of animal control services in Chatham-Kent, says they are looking for anyone with information about the incident.

“(On May 3 at) around 6:30 p.m. a 49 year-old Chatham man was bit by a stray dog in the area of Princess Street and Murray Street in Chatham,” Hamm said in an email to the media.

“He received bite wounds to his right forearm and his left calf. The dog is described as a medium sized, pure black dog, resembling a Pit Bull.”

Hamm added: “The dog allegedly ran East on Murray from the train tracks, towards ‘Future Skills’ School, charged at the man, bit him, and then ran back Westbound on Murray St. Animal Control attended the area shortly after the attack took place and could not locate the dog.”

PAW Animal Control is reaching out to the public to see if anyone was in the described area yesterday, around 6:30 p.m. and observed a similar dog running at large.

If anyone has any information that may assist they are being asked to call 226-996-9969 or email jasonpawr@gmail.com
