Police are still searching for a motive and a suspect after a shooting at Dresden Raceway last Saturday night. Police allege the victim, Dwayne McFadden, 58 years-old of Wallaceburg, sustained a non-life-threatening gunshot wound. He was treated and released from a London hospital. Detectives from the Major Crime Unit have taken over the investigation and continue their efforts in identify the person responsible.

A 25-year-old Wallaceburg woman, who has been charged with first-degree murder, briefly appeared in a Chatham courtroom via video on Wednesday. Kourtny Audette’s new lawyer Laura Joy, who was not in the packed courtroom, is still reviewing disclosure in the case. Audette will appear in court via video on Tuesday. In the meantime, she will remain in custody. Police continue to investigate the alleged April 18th incident, where Nicholas Laprise, a 24-year-old man from Dover, was pronounced dead at the scene on Book Street in Wallaceburg.

Animal control officials are reaching out to the public, after an unknown dog attacked a man in the East end of Chatham on Thursday, May 3. Officials say a 49 year-old Chatham man was bit by a stray dog in the area of Princess Street and Murray Street in Chatham. He received bite wounds to his right forearm and his left calf. The dog is described as a medium sized, pure black dog, resembling a Pit Bull. Call 226-996-9969 with information.

The governing Liberals have finally announced their candidate in Lambton-Kent-Middlesex for the 2018 Ontario election. Cambridge resident Ryan O’Hagan has taken on the task. O’Hagan, who grew up in Strathroy, graduated from Western in 2015 and has been teaching ever since. O’Hagan joins Monte McNaughton, the incumbent MPP for the Ontario PC Party, Todd Case, the NDP candidate, Brian Everaert, the Trillium Party of Ontario candidate and Brad Greulich, the Ontario Libertarian Party candidate, who are all in the running this election. Election day is June 7.

Nominations continue to roll in for the 2018 Chatham-Kent election. The Municipality also released a list of people who are not eligible to run in this year’s election. Among the eight people listed are 2014 mayoral candidates Steve Brent and Reno Lachappelle. Municipal Election Day is October 22nd.

A Chatham Councillor is looking for staff to answer some of his questions about the pending legalization of marijuana across Canada and how it will impact Chatham-Kent. Doug Sulman is set to present a notice of motion on Monday. He is looking for staff’s plan on enforcement on public consumption and impaired driving, public health and education, business licensing, odour mediation and control, land use planning and employer/employee relations. The legislation comes into effect on July 1.

Chatham-Kent Health Alliance has announces the arrival of a new ER Doctor. Dr. Tracy Zhang was introfuced to the CKHA’s Emergency Department (ED) and Hospitalist Department. A native of Ottawa, Ontario, Dr. Zhang attended Queen’s University where she earned a Bachelor of Health Sciences in 2009, and a Doctor of Medicine in 2014.
