Moms are special

From The Pastor’s Pen – By Brian Horrobin

I have a sister-in-law who many years ago declared her great desire for her life: “I want to be a wife and mother” was what she said.

That may not sound too profound but she certainly got what she wanted.

Lois is the mother of 12 children, four girls and eight boys.

She has three daughters and two sons that are married.

She absolutely LOVES her profession and doesn’t feel any regret that her life has turned out this way.

She’d be the first to tell you that raising 12 kids was a boatload of work, and that there were trials and tribulations along the way, but the journey has been worth it for her.

The question is often asked why we have to have a special day set aside to honour mothers.

Yes, moms should be appreciated EVERY day, but setting aside one day in particular helps to remind us of this special person in our lives.

Nobody ever said you had to limit your affections and gratitude to the second Sunday in May every year.

Why not do something on a regular basis?

Dinner out and fresh flowers work well at other times, too.

A sticky note affixed to her morning coffee cup on a grey day in November or her favourite chocolate bar left waiting on her nightstand on a routine summer day also say, “Happy Mothers’ Day.”

By all means go all out to bless mom on this Mothers’ Day but make a note to yourself to do stuff at other times during the year, too.

God and your mom will be glad you did!
