Foundation of CKHA is $250,000 away from goal

The Foundation of Chatham-Kent Health Alliance (CKHA) has just $250,000 remaining to reach its ultimate goal of $6.9 million for the Diagnostic Imaging Equipment Renewal Campaign.

With the campaign wrapping up on May 28, 2018, the Foundation is asking the community to rally together to lend support needed for new diagnostic imaging (DI) equipment for CKHA’s Chatham and Wallaceburg hospital sites.

“Through the very generous support of the community, we are now only $250,000 away from reaching our goal,” said Mary Lou Crowley, Executive Director, Foundation of CKHA.

“With just one week left, we need the community’s support more than ever. The equipment being purchased through this campaign is going to improve lives across our community.”

Launched in 2014, the Future in Focus fundraising campaign supports the purchase of 17 new pieces of equipment for the CKHA.

Fifteen pieces have already been installed, with a large portion of the remaining funds being raised to purchase one of the most important pieces equipment for any hospital: a new CT scan machine.

“The hard work of the Foundation and the community over the last number of years has really paid off,” said Crowley.

“The people of Chatham-Kent have been incredibly supportive, and with their help we continue to make health care better for everyone who calls this area home.”

Diagnostic imaging equipment can help diagnose cancer, heart disease, strokes, broken bones and countless other ailments. Advanced equipment can also help to attract more physicians to the community as they seek out health care environments where the latest innovations and technologies are in use.

Governments do not fund capital equipment expenditures such as new diagnostic imaging equipment for hospitals. It is the mandate of hospital foundations to raise money from organizations, individuals and businesses to purchase these necessary items for the community.

“This new equipment will do so much good for our friends and family when they need it the most,” said Crowley.

“Every single dollar counts and I’m confident we can band together as a community to raise the final $250,000.”

The community can donate to the campaign and support the Foundation of CKHA by visiting www.ourfutureisinfocus.com.

IPM supports Tourism Week

Local organizers of the 2018 International Plowing Match and Rural Expo (IPM 2018) and the Ontario Plowmen’s Association (OPA) are pleased to be taking part in the VisitCK Tourism Week Celebration to be held Tuesday May 29 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Chatham Capitol Theatre.

Tourism Week in Canada is a grassroots initiative that brings attention to the economic opportunity available to Canada through travel and tourism and the public policy challenges preventing the sector from capitalizing on those opportunities.

Local tourism providers will be exhibiting their major attractions, services and fantastic upcoming events. Admission is free for citizens, although they are encouraged to register for the event online at CKTourism@chatham-kent.ca

The 2018 International Plowing Match and Rural Expo is expected to attract more than 80 thousand visitors to Pain Court from September 18-22. It will showcase Chatham-Kent’s important agriculture, business and tourism activities. Held in a different Ontario community each year, the match has a very long and popular history.

“There will be visitors from all across Ontario and beyond,” says Darrin Canniff, Co-chair of the IPM 2018 community committee, which works with the OPA to host the match. “IPM 2018 is going to be an awful lot of fun for both rural and urban people,” he adds. “There will be ploughing competitions, horses, antiques, entertainment and exhibits of all kinds.”

“Tourism boosts both our businesses and our communities,” says IPM 2018 Co-chair Leon Leclair. “Many companies believe IPM 2018 is a very worthwhile venture, which is why they have invested good money as sponsors and exhibitors at the event. IPM 2018 will also generate a substantial legacy fund to be reinvested in Chatham-Kent. Overall, our community needs to take advantage of all the marvellous activities going on, and to appreciate how very much our Chatham-Kent tourism providers are doing to promote our economy and quality of life. We’re glad to be part of the VisitCK Tourism Week Celebration.”
