The water will be on at the Wallaceburg Splash Pad on Friday, June 1.

There is also a barbecue fundraiser on Friday at the Southwest Regional Credit Union, located at 57 McNaughton Ave. in Wallaceburg, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Chris Young, the chair of the Splash Pad committee, says they are hoping to raise the final $2,000 for the original installation of the splash pad.

“It would definitely be a nice way to finish up our fundraising effort,” Young told the Sydenham Current.

“Thanks to the Southwest Regional Credit Union they were one of the first to jump on board to support this project and they have stuck with us to the end. They deserve a big thank you.”

Ken Ritchie, the director of human resources for the Credit Union, says they are hoping to help the committee reach their goal on Friday.

“Southwest Regional Credit Union would like to be responsible to help them achieve this goal,” Ritchie said.

“100% of all the money raised will be donated directly to this event.”

Young said their committee is eyeing phase two of the project.

“We are looking at adding a permanent fully accessible washroom as well as connecting sidewalks,” Young said, adding that more details would be available at a later date.

A grand opening opening and ribbon cutting ceremony for the new splash pad was held at Colwell Park in Wallaceburg on August 19 last year.

Approximately $200,000 was raised for the construction of the project.
