The 17th annual Sydenham Challenge Dragon Boat Festival is taking place in downtown Wallaceburg on Saturday, June 2.

The festivities will take place from 8 a.m. to around 4 p.m. at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 18 in Wallaceburg.

The racing will take place along the Sydenham River.

Organizers are still looking to fill one boat for the event.

“Due to unforeseen circumstances a team has had to pull out of the race,” said Brian Armitage, the event organizer.

“We have created a new team called ‘Dragon Wings’. We have two very experienced dragon boaters from the ‘Raging Dragons’ who have offered to help this team come together as well be team members. We just need paddlers. If you have a few extra people or know of someone. Or, if you don’t have a team in this year and are looking to get in a boat. Let us know.”

Armitage added: “Three years ago at the last minute we had to pull a team together on the Saturday morning… they walked away with a gold medal.”

To register contact Armitage by email at brian@uwock.ca or by calling 519-628-5456.

Proceeds form the event support United Way of Chatham-Kent programs and the Breast Buddies Support Team.
