Time to hold your nose… and vote

By Glen Turner – Special to the Sydenham Current

Well, it’s time.

I went to the advance poll, and voted in the 2018 Ontario Election.

I was seriously considering spoiling my ballot.

But, after putting a comment on FaceBook about my feelings about this campaign, a friend replied.

She said “I’m going to hold my nose, and vote.”

I have to agree.

On one hand, you have the Liberals under Wynne, probably the most disliked politician in a long time.

Then you have Andrea Horwath, who I like, but she has the NDP history to contend with. Anyone remember ‘Rae Days’.

In Ontario in the 90’s? And the fact that their mess-ups led to… Mike Harris?

Of course, you can always consider Doug Ford and the PC’s, but good luck even finding a platform for that party.

Their provincial executive has fallen so far, can you imagine a party without a formal platform a week before the election date? Wow.

Not surprisingly, there seems to be an increasing number of people who are talking about an ABF movement – ‘Anybody But Ford’.

I hope that many people tried out the CBC ‘Compass’ tracker online.

After you answer a lot of questions about the issues, it shows where your sympathies lie, depending on how you answered the questions.

So, instead of spoiling my ballot, I voted.

I held my nose… and I voted.

I’ve been politically involved, politically interested, and politically active for 50 years.

But this election has made me realize just how ridiculous politics can be.

I can’t wait to see how the results turn out.

The projections have the NDP winning the popular vote.

The projections show that they won’t be forming the government, despite that popularity.

And by the way, I DID actually hold my nose when I marked my ballot.
