Wallaceburg resident Joey Cyples is running for council in Ward 4 – North Kent.

Cyples, a Chartered Professional Accountant who works at Union Gas as a Senior Advisor in Business Development, is looking forward to the opportunity at running for Chatham-Kent council.

“While this is my first time running for council, I am very excited to get the process started, and getting out in the community to meet the residents of North Kent,” Cyples said in a media release.

“I look forward to hearing both the positives and the negatives and working together to make our municipality even better.”

Cyples grew up in Cambridge and Bluevale, Ontario.

He lived in Sudbury for five years while studying business at Laurentian University and for the last 10 years he has called Chatham-Kent home.

He lives in Wallaceburg with his wife Laura and their daughter, Quinn.

Cyples is a former member of the Sydenham Curling Club board of directors and he is currently the treasurer for the Wallaceburg Sports Hall of Fame.

“Fiscal responsibility is one of my top priorities for all my decisions on council,” Cyples said.

“I will oppose all unnecessary and wasteful spending to keep taxes low and more of peoples hard-earned money in their pocket. Another priority will be to help create jobs and grow Chatham-Kent’s economy. We need to support the growth of the current businesses in the municipality while also going out and recruiting new businesses to start up here.”

Cyples joins Dylan McLay as the only two people to file so far in Ward 4 – North Kent.

Current North Kent Coun. Leon Leclair has stated he is not running in this year’s election, while Coun. Joe Faas has yet to state his intentions.

Election day is October 22, 2018.
