Field house/washrooms to open at Chatham soccer field

Many soccer players will now enjoy the use of a new family-friendly field house/washroom facility at the Center for Community Services Soccer Fields on Grand Avenue and Lark Street.

This new facility was a partnership between the Municipality of Chatham-Kent, Health & Family Services, Chatham Youth Soccer Association and Community Living Chatham Kent.

The need for a new washroom building was identified to Chatham-Kent Council in 2016 and funding in the amount of $466,427 was approved in 2016 and 2017.

The soccer fields at the Centre for Community Services location sees on average over 1,200 users each week, so the new facility will be a welcome addition for all.

The building consists of washrooms, storage room, canteen and shelter area, and will be open for use during soccer and other community events throughout the summer months.

The project is a great partnership between the four partners as it helped to solve several challenges in including shade, proper washroom facilities for users, storage requirements for Chatham Youth Soccer Association and provision of food services.

It also provides job learning skills through the canteen which is operated by Community Living Chatham-Kent as a job skills learning opportunity.

The family washroom will be open for the public use daily from May until September seasonally and the main washrooms will be available during the evening hours.

Additionally, the building meets the Chatham Kent Facility Accessible Design Standards to ensure those with mobility or other challenged are able to use the facility and also the facility is family friendly to service the needs of smaller children.

The official opening of the facility will be held on Thursday, June 7, 2018 at 6:00 p.m.
