McNaughton re-elected in LKM, PC majority across Ontario

Monte McNaughton of the Ontario PC Party has been re-elected in Lambton-Kent-Middlesex.

With Doug Ford winning a majority PC government across the province, McNaughton told the Sydenham Current on Election Night that there will be no time for rest.

“I’ll be right back to work in the morning serving constituents in Lambton-Kent-Middlesex,” McNaughton said.

“I’m going to be immediately moving to ensure that the Otter Creek project gets stopped here in Wallaceburg, the wind turbine project. As well as working to ensure the health hazard investigation finally occurs for the North Kent Wind project for the families that live near that.”

McNaughton added: “I’m looking forward to being a part of that PC government that is going to bring a change. The people of Lambton-Kent-Middlesex have wanted change and the rest of the province at that point didn’t, but tonight people right across the province voted clearly… it’s a PC majority government and that is going to bode well for the families of Lambton-Kent-Middlesex.”

McNaughton gathered 55.34% of the vote on Thursday for a total of 27,877 votes.

McNaughton was 11,086 votes ahead of the second place finisher in the riding, Todd Case of the Ontario NDP Party. Case gathered 33.33% of the vote for a total of 16,791 votes.

Mike Radan, the Liberal candidate, finished third in the voting in Lambton-Kent-Middlesex with 6.23% of the vote for a total of 3,138 votes. Anthony Li, the Green Party of Ontario candidate, gathered 1,655 votes for 3.29%, Wallaceburg’s Brian Everaert, the Trillium Party candidate, got 555 votes or 1.1%, while Brad Greulich of the Libertarian party gathered 355 votes for 0.7%.

McNaughton said he is completely humbled to be re-elected for his third straight term as MPP.

“I’m very thankful for the strong mandate I received tonight, nearly 60% of the vote for the PC Party here,” McNaughton said.

“It is going to be different. Voters right across the province voted for change, there is going to be a PC majority government and I’m looking forward to being a part of that majority government to finally bring change to the people of Ontario.”

With Ford due to name his Cabinet in the coming weeks, McNaughton told the Sydenham Current he will serve in any role.

“It’s one step at a time,” McNaughton said.

“I’m ecstatic that we received nearly 60% of the vote. Clearly people wanted the Liberals gone and they chose Conservatives in this riding. I’m happy to serve in any role that Premier-elect Doug Ford asks me to do. I’m committed to the platform and the plan that Doug Ford laid out, putting more money back in people’s pockets, fixing the hydro mess in Ontario that is long overdue, so I’ll serve in any capacity that he asks me to.”

Unofficially, the Ontario PC Party won 76 seats at Queen’s Park this election.

The NDP will form the official opposition, as Andrea Horwath and her team gathered 40 seats.

The Liberals only picked up 7 seats, while the Green Party picked up one seat in Guelph, the first ever seat in Queen’s Park for the party.
