Monte McNaughton of the Ontario PC Party has been re-elected in Lambton-Kent-Middlesex. And across the province, Doug Ford won a majority PC government. McNaughton says he is getting right back to work McNaughton gathered 55.34% of the vote. Todd Case of the Ontario NDP Party finished second in the riding with 33.33% of the vote, Mike Radan of the Liberals finished third with 6.23%, Anthony Li, of the Green Party, Brian Everaert of the Trillium Party and Brad Greulich of the Libertarian party rounded out the voting.

Unofficially, the Ontario PC Party won 76 seats at Queen’s Park this election. The NDP will form the official opposition, as Andrea Horwath and her team gathered 40 seats. The Liberals only picked up 7 seats, and former Premier Kathleen Wynne announced she is stepping down as the Party leader. The Green Party picked up one seat in Guelph, the first ever seat in Ontario for the party.

A bail application is in the works for Kourtny Audette of Wallaceburg, who is facing first degree murder charges. Audette appeared in Chatham court on Tuesday through an audio link. Katie Heathcote appeared in court on behalf of Audette’s lawyer, Laura Joy. Heathcote told the court that disclosure in the case has been received by Joy’s office. She asked the court if Audette could return, via video, on Tuesday, June 26 at 10:30 a.m. in Chatham. Heathcote said they are anticipating to submit an application for bail in Superior Court. In the meantime, Audette will remain in custody.

Here’s an update on the Municipal election in Chatham-Kent…

Randy McNeil has added his name to the Municipal Election mix in Ward 5 – Wallaceburg. The former Wallaceburg town Councillor, who has over 40 years experience in financial management, filed his papers at the Chatham-Kent Civic Centre on Friday, June 1. McNeil is the fifth person to file in Ward 5 – Wallaceburg. Aaron Hall, Chris Glassford, Carmen McGregor and Nick Cadotte are all vying for one of two spots representing Ward 5.

Two more people have filed their papers in Ward 4 – North Kent. Wallaceburg resident Joey Cyples is running for council in Ward 4. Cyples is a Chartered Professional Accountant who works at Union Gas as a Senior Advisor in Business Development. Pain Court resident Steven Scott also filed his papers and is running for one of two spots in North Kent. Dylan was the first person to file in Ward 4. Current Councillor Leon Leclair says he won’t be seeking re-election, while Joe Faas has yet to state his intentions.

Chatham-Kent goes to the polls on October 22.

The Wallaceburg Splash Pad committee surpassed their phase one target on Friday afternoon, June 1. Together with a $1,000 private donation and a barbecue at the Southwest Regional Credit Union, the group eclipsed the $200,000 mark for fundraising. The barbecue raised a total of $1,015.90. Chris Young, the chair of the Splash Pad committee, says hey are now eyeing phase two of the project, which will add a permanent fully accessible washroom as well as connecting sidewalks.

The annual Sydenham Challenge Dragon Boat Festival was held last weekend in downtown Wallaceburg. Organizer Brian Armitage says it was another awesome event. Proceeds from the event support programs in Wallaceburg for the United Way of Chatham-Kent and the Breast Buddies Support Team.
