C-K working with Big Data to help local manufacturing

Big data has come to the Chatham-Kent manufacturing sector and it is enabling employers to make better business decisions by helping them to understand local, provincial, and even national labour markets and human capital through Labour Market Intelligence (LMI).

Chatham-Kent Economic Development, in partnership with Excellence in Manufacturing Consortium (EMC), is welcoming manufacturers in south western Ontario to participate in a FREE education session on ManufacturingGPS, a fully searchable LMI system.

The education event is being held the morning of June 20, 2018, at the John D. Bradley Convention Centre in Chatham.

Senior Managers, CFOs, Plant Managers, Human Resource Managers, and Industry Community Partners are invited to attend to hear from subject-matter-experts and practitioners to learn more about the opportunities and challenges affecting manufacturing.

“Labour Market Intelligence shares information that manufacturers really need. That’s why Economic Development is providing tools and education to help employers build a healthy ecosystem where business can utilize statistics to improve recruitment & retention of employees,” said Geoff Wright from Chatham-Kent Economic Development.

At its core, LMI is a smart system powered by data that enables employers to find, develop, and retain a capable and talented workforce based on skills, demand, and recruiting requirements. It also provides insights into wage statistics, industry trends, and opportunities affecting manufacturing.

“We have heard of times where ManufacturingGPS has helped reduce contract negotiation times by days or weeks. This can have a positive impact on production and the bottom line for manufacturers,“ said Wright. “Not to mention that employers can use LMI tools to discover and connect with a skilled labour force that is ready to work. It’s a win-win for everyone.”

Registration for the event closes on Monday. “Currently we have over twelve companies registered to attend the event and we welcome other manufacturers to join us,” said Wernher Verbraeken, Field Service Advisor, EMC. “To register, they can email me at wverbraeken@emccanada.org.”
