Dresden man faces charges after evading police

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege early Wednesday morning, June 13, a man attended the Real Canadian Superstore in Chatham and was observed concealing 10 SD cards.

The man exited the store making no attempt to pay for the items valued at $120.

The Loss Prevention officer approached the man outside and placed him under arrest.

At this time, the man fled and police were called.

An officer on general patrol observed the man driving his motorcycle southbound on Prince Albert Road.

The officer initiated a traffic stop, however the man in an attempt to evade police, turned into a private driveway and continued driving through a grassy field.

The man found his way back onto the roadway and eventually pulled over.

He was taken into custody in the area of Communication Road and Colborne Street.

Upon being searched incident to arrest, the man was also found to be in possession of $55 worth of stolen clothing from the Downtown Chatham Center.

The 52-year-old Dresden man has been charged with theft under $5,000, two counts of possession of property obtained by a crime under $5,000, escape lawful custody, flight while pursued by peace officer and dangerous operation of a motor vehicle.

He was transported to the Courthouse pending a bail hearing.
