Canada Day festivities set for Sunday in Wallaceburg

This year Wallaceburg’s Canada Day festivities at Kinsmen Park are being organized by the Wallaceburg Centennial Lions Club.

Leesa Ervin, a Lions member, says the club got involved with organizing the festivities because they want to serve the community.

“That’s our motto… ‘we serve’. So we wanted to take it over because we serve the community and we wanted to put on a spectacular show this year,” Ervin told the Sydenham Current.

The opening ceremonies start at 3 p.m. with children singing ‘Oh! Canada’ and cake cutting.

Shortly after, Dickie Bird, a children’s entertainer, will take the stage followed by the Wallaceburg Flying W’s gymnastics group, who will provide a special demonstration from 4:30 p.m. to 5 p.m.

Other activities will include LIVE music, bouncy castles for the kids, glitter tattoos, face painting and balloons twisting and a duck pond kids can play to win a prize.

There will also be a new item on the list of things to do this year.

A photo booth will be available absolutely FREE from 4:30 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Food vendors will be present as well as other vendors.

This year the Knights pf Pythias are selling hamburgers and hotdogs, the Wallaceburg Lakers are selling french fries and the Lions Club will be doing hot dogs.

Kona Ice will be on hand as well.

The evening will be capped off by a fireworks display, starting at 10 p.m.

“Bring your smiles, bring your lawn chairs,” Ervin added.

The Lions Club is also asking people to please leave your dogs at home.
