Canada Day: Thankful for a great country

From The Pastor’s Pen – By Brian Horrobin

Today marks the 151st birthday of our great country, Canada.

There may be any number of ways you plan to celebrate, from barbecues to boating to attending a fireworks display.

I’d like to challenge you to celebrate this day as more than just a day off.

I want to challenge you to consider the men and women of uniform who are currently serving our country in a peacekeeping missions abroad so that people in other countries can enjoy the same freedom that we do.

What if each of us took just a few minutes to reflect and give God thanks for these brave soldiers and ask the Lord to extend His arm of protection to them?

Perhaps you could do this right before you dive in to that assortment of burgers and hot dogs coming off the grill.

Taking just a few minutes to remember our faithful comrades abroad will help us to have a better appreciation for Canada, our home and native land.

You may even want write a letter to the editor of a local paper, or post something on social media expressing your gratitude for those who have served or are serving.

It would only take a few minutes but it would certainly be appreciated by our veterans.

Happy Canada Day, everyone!
