Owner charged for leaving dog in vehicle

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege yesterday morning, police received information that a dog was left in a car in a parking lot on Keil Drive in Chatham.

Due to the hot and humid temperature, the owner, a 58-year-old Chatham man was charged with leaving an animal unattended in a motor vehicle when weather conditions not suitable, contrary to the Responsible Animal Ownership 93-2015 By-Law, police say.

The Chatham-Kent Police Service would like to remind everyone that should you see an animal left in a hot car, please call PAWR, OSPCA at 310-SPCA (7722) or your local police service.

Owners found to be in contravention of the By-Law may be charged and issued a $365 fine.
