Mayor Randy Hope seeking re-election

Chatham-Kent Mayor Randy Hope is seeking a fourth term.

The incumbent mayor filed his papers on Tuesday, July 3, officially entering the race for the top spot on Chatham-Kent Council.

“I will be filing my nomination papers today to run for Mayor of Chatham-Kent!” Hope tweeted on Tuesday.

“I believe my track record and experience make me an excellent candidate for re-election.”

The Municipality of Chatham-Kent website states Hope’s focus is the current and future well-being of the community and he has been in the forefront of proactive negotiations with investors and manufacturers in North America, Asia and Europe.

He is the Vice Chair of the Southwest Economic Alliance (SWEA), a movement in Southwest Ontario to unite business and community leaders in an effort to promote economic growth and prosperity on a regional basis

He has also served on the Chatham-Kent Police Services Board, the Board of Directors of CK Energy, CK Hydro Board, Chatham-Kent Public Utilities Commission, the Great Lakes and St. Lawrence Cities Initiative, Chatham-Kent Workforce Planning Board and attends meetings of the Large Urban Mayors Caucus of Ontario and Mayors and Regional Chairs of Ontario.

Prior to becoming mayor, he was the president of the Canadian Auto Workers Local 1941, President of the Chatham and District Labour Council and served as a Member of Provincial Parliament. He was the first New Democrat from the community to be elected to the Ontario Legislature.

Since the 2006 municipal election, Hope has worked continually on economic development, job creation and improved municipal operations.

Hope joins Darrin Canniff and Alysson Storey in the race to become Chatham-Kent’s mayor.

Election day is October 22, 2018.
