Ceremony held at new $36 million Gateway Casino site

(Municipality of Chatham-Kent)

Ground was officially broken for construction this morning for the new $36 million Gateway Casino at the site of the former Wheels Inn on Richmond Street in Chatham.

Municipal officials say the 45,000 square foot casino will be completed next August and will create 200 new jobs.

One hundred workers from the current Gateway Casino in Dresden will be transferred to the new facility as well.

Gateway CEO Tony Santo said the facility will include two restaurants which will not have age restrictions and will be separate from the casino floor.

The casino will feature 333 slots and 12 table games along with Gateway’s signature restaurants MATCH Eatery & Public House and The Buffet.

Chatham-Kent Mayor Randy Hope said the casino is the next big step in generating more food an entertainment business for the community.
