Robert Powers is running for mayor in Chatham-Kent

(Robert Salvatore Powers)

Another name has been added to the mix in the race to become Chatham-Kent’s next mayor.

Chatham’s Robert Salvatore Powers filed his papers last week and is seeking the top spot on Chatham-Kent council.

Powers, who has no prior political experience, currently works as a slot technician at Gateway Casinos in Dresden. He also owns two Master’s degrees – a Masters in public policy with distinction from the University of Michigan-Dearborn and a Master of Arts and Political Science from the University of Windsor.

Reports say Powers wants to fix the problems with amalgamation and give the people the power.

He says local residents should have the ability to ‘recall’ elected members of council, published reports indicate.

Powers is the fourth person to enter the mayoral race in Chatham-Kent, joining incumbent Mayor Randy Hope, Chatham Coun. Darrin Canniff and local advocate Alysson Storey.

Election day is October 22, 2018.
