3Rivers Roll strolls through Wallaceburg

Organizers say the second 3Rivers Roll of the summer, hosted by Community Living Wallaceburg on Wednesday, was held with great success.

Alicia Allaer, one of the organizers with Community Living, told the Sydenham Current it was another fantastic roll through Wallaceburg.

“We couldn’t ask for better weather,” she said.

“With the heat break about two days ago, we are so happy we have a breeze and the sun is still shining.”

The route started at Oaks Retirement Village, went through the Wallaceburg Cemetery, to the Wallaceburg boat docks and back to the Oaks.

“It was a cool route, kind of a road less traveled,” Allaer said.

“It’s absolutely beautiful.”

The ride started at 7 p.m. and a barbecue was held prior.

“We would like to thank Eternity’s Touch and mPower, they are the presenting sponsors this year,” Allaer said.

“They allow us to keep this route free, this ride free. They also allow us to help raise money for the wheelchair bicycle.”

Community Living Wallaceburg is hoping to purchase the bicycle so that individuals with an intellectual or physical disability can participate in future rides.

“We are getting very close,” Allaer said about the fundraising.

“The wheelchair bicycle will probably round out at about $10,000 when it is all said and done. We are definitely on our way. I would be very surprised if we can’t buy the bike by the end of the summer.”

Oaks Retirement Village was the event sponsor for the July event, as they donated all the food. All the proceeds from the barbecue went towards the wheelchair bicycle fundraiser.

Allaer said at the last ride held in June about 150 people took part and she was anticipating about 200 people being out on Wednesday.

The final roll of the summer will take place on Thursday, August 16, at mPower Electric, which is located at 304 Arnold Street in Wallaceburg.

The ride leaves at 7 p.m., with the meet-up starting at 6:30 p.m.
