Wallaceburg woman charged for leaving cats in vehicle

A Wallaceburg woman faces charges after allegedly leaving a cat and three kittens inside a hot vehicle.

Jason Hamm, manager of Animal Control Services in Chatham-Kent, told the Sydenham Current on July 26, 2018 PAWR Animal Control received a call for a car in a parking lot on Tweedsmuir Ave. W. in Chatham with cats left inside.

Hamm said upon arrival it was discovered that three kittens and one adult cat were inside the vehicle.

The internal temperature was taken and the temperature ranged from 35 degrees Celsius to 37 degrees Celsius inside the vehicle,” Hamm said.

The cats were eventually removed from the vehicle and put inside a nearby apartment to receive cool water.

“We want to stress to the public it’s not just dogs that can’t be left unattended in a vehicle, it is all animals,” Hamm said in a statement.

An 18-year-old Wallaceburg woman has been charged with multiple charges for leaving animal unattended in motor vehicle when weather conditions are not suitable under the Chatham-Kent Responsible Animal Ownership by law section 13.1.
