Third Street Bridge closed in Chatham

(Municipality of Chatham-Kent )

Municipality of Chatham-Kent officials say the Third Street Bridge over the Thames River will be closed on Friday, August 3, until further notice.

“The Municipality of Chatham-Kent conducts yearly inspections on bridges with spans greater than 3 metres. These inspections are completed in order to ensure public safety,” staff said in a press release.

“During one of these inspections, the Third Street Bridge was found to have areas of concern. In order to ensure public safety, the Third Street Bridge will be closed to vehicular traffic today until temporary repairs can be completed. The bridge will remain open for pedestrian traffic.”

The Municipality of Chatham-Kent is currently working towards a solution to have temporary repairs completed as soon as possible in order to minimize the length of the closure.
