What’s with the petty crime lately?

By Glen Turner – Special to the Sydenham Current

Sometimes I think I have a little too much time on my hands.

I think way too much, obviously.

Unfortunately, many of my thoughts are questions, which often begin with…

“What’s with… ?”

Seriously.

What’s with the petty crime lately?

I mean, boats being stolen from people’s docks… from their driveways?

Garden tools and riding lawnmowers stolen from people’s properties?

Gasoline being siphoned from people’s vehicles… on their own properties?

Discarded needles being found on public land… like parks?!!?

So many groups and organizations try to help folks in need… and we have more than our fair share of drug clinics here.

Yet a lot of people speculate that the crime levels and drugs are directly connected.

I don’t know.

But… I HATE the idea of having to always lock my car, and my garden shed and my doors.

I look every day to make sure MY gas tank in my car hasn’t been tampered with, with the resulting damage to my vehicle.

I don’t like having to be careful when I use a ‘spit-a-buck’, aka an instant teller bank machine.

I don’t think I’m paranoid… but, the world is becoming very very strange.
