Unattended cooking is to blame for a fire on King Street in Wallaceburg on Monday night.

“Crews were called to King Street in Wallaceburg just after 10:30 p.m. Monday and were greeted by large amounts of smoke coming from a small apartment building,” fire officials say.

“Crews made a quick attack on a kitchen fire to prevent the fire from spreading to both rear and basement apartments.”

All tenants escaped without injury, fire officials say.

“Chatham-Kent Fire & Emergency Service would like remind residents to ensure they have working smoke and carbon monoxide alarms in their homes and practice their home escape plan in case of an emergency.”

Damage is pegged at $150,000.

Crews were called to the multi-residential complex at 9:17 p.m.
