Wallaceburg’s Janet Barnes acclaimed as school board trustee

There will once again not be an election race for the position of school board trustee in Ward 4 – North Kent, Ward 5 – Wallaceburg and South Lambton County.

Wallaceburg’s Janet Barnes was the only person to file her nominations papers for the position and she will be acclaimed.

“I grew up in the Wallaceburg rural area and was educated with the Lambton County and Kent County School Boards,” Barnes said in a written release.

“I currently reside in Wallaceburg with my husband Jim. Our children were part of the Lambton Kent District School Board and now our grandchildren are part of the Lambton-Kent District School Board. We have an amazing community that will work with the LKDSB and I hope to be the voice of North Kent and South Lambton to represent this area.”

Barnes said she believes the Lambton Kent District School Board should move forward with any curriculum.

“We have to use our past to gain knowledge and experience, but we should be forward thinking,” she said.

“We can use this gained wisdom to work with our community to ensure we are informed and can make educated choices which can aide in becoming an inclusive community and school board.”

Barnes has volunteered for 25 years with various agencies, businesses and groups, some of which are Scouts Canada, LKDSB, Ontario Minor Hockey, Wallaceburg Minor Hockey, Chamber of Commerce, Wallaceburg Business Improvement Area, St. Clair River Run, Wallaceburg and District Council for The Arts and various individual people throughout the Chatham-Kent and Sarnia-Lambton Community.

“Volunteering is extremely important to me as it is a way to give back and ensure I understand various aspects of my community,” she said.

“LKDSB Trustee is something I have wanted to be involved with for sometime, but we had great leadership with our past trustees; Tom and Carmen McGregor that I choose to wait until they completed their service.”

Tom McGregor, who had the trustee position in the area for the past four years, did not file his papers for the election.
