A new feature for the Wallaceburg Motor and Boat Outing (WAMBO) is the inaugural Community Boat Parade.

Paul Dineno, the boat manager for WAMBO, said people are encouraged to bring their boats and decorate them,

“It is on the Friday night and the launch is at 7 p.m. at the launch ramp around the railway bridge,” Dineno said.

“There is a course in through town and it will be after the cars leave downtown and before they come in. There is prizes for second and third for that too. Hopefully we get a good turnout. It is something different this year. We tried something different. We are still trying to get the word out.”

Dineno said he is hoping to see a lot of boats lined up along the Sydenham River the annual boat display.

“I have a dozen antique registries at this point which are the ones that are inside the walking bridge area,” he said.

“Probably 25 spectator boats as well. It is not unusual for it to be the last week or the last moment or they just appear. It is really hard to get people to register in advance. Number one is the weather, there are other shows that some of these clubs go to that WAMBO may be on the list this year, but not next year kind of thing. We compete with a couple of others on the U.S. side.”

Dineno said there will be plenty of annual prizes handed out.

“There is a Chris Craft award obviously, there is one for the oldest boat, there is a Peoples Choice which is chosen by the spectators, there is a Captain’s Choice. Everyone gets one vote and the Captain votes for his own boat every time. There are others, about half a dozen, if not more. The award ceremony takes place at 3 p.m. on Saturday.”

The awards from last yuear, include:

– Royal Bank Cup Outboard Powered

– Superior Hudson Cup Antiquity Award

– Martin Insurance Cup 1st Time Favourite

– Wallaceburg Power & Sail Squadron CPS or USPS Participant Award

– Mack Craft Cup Captain’s Choice

– Chairman’s Choice

– Canadian Wild Cat Cup (People’s Choice Award)

– Chris Craft Cup (Outstanding Chris Craft)

“I am hoping just for wonderful weather,” Dineno said.

WAMBO 30 is taking place August 10, 11 & 12.
