While details are limited at the moment, Wallaceburg’s Councillors are excited about Thursday’s pending announcement for a new multi-million dollar, state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in Chatham-Kent.

Counc. Jeff Wesley told the Sydenham Current he is “very happy” about the announcement.

“This is great news for Wallaceburg and C-K,” Wesley said.

“Mayor Hope did a lot of work to keep this on track and Carmen and I were involved and updated all the way. Existing building gets new life, new jobs, new company, new opportunities and I love pickles.”

Wesley added: “This adds a whole new positive element to our local economy with new employment and local purchases.”

Counc. Carmen McGregor told the Sydenham Current she is “very excited” about the announcement being made on Thursday in Wallaceburg.

“We have a major Canadian company establishing a food processing plant,” she said.

“This is very good news and will mean many new local jobs for our community.”

Mcgregor said she is encouraging people to come to the Civic Square Park for 11 a.m. on Thursday, August 23.

“To learn the details and to give this company a warm welcome,” she said.

Chatham-Kent officials said representatives of the company, a leading Canadian-owned firm with more than a century of leadership in its sector, will be present for the announcement as will Mayor Randy Hope, Chatham-Kent councillors, and staff members.

Watch for a follow-up story after the announcement is made.
