Heat warning going into effect

A heat event will begin on Sunday September 2, Environment Canada officials say.

The heat warning will be in place all across Chatham-Kent.

“A hot and humid airmass is expected to return to the area on Sunday. Daytime maximum temperatures of 31 degrees are forecast Sunday through Wednesday, with overnight minimum temperatures remaining above 21 degrees providing little relief from the heat. A cold front is expected to move through midweek bringing cooler conditions for Thursday,” forecasters say.

The risks are greater for young children, pregnant women, older adults, people with chronic illnesses and people working or exercising outdoors, forecasters say.

“Never leave people or pets inside a parked vehicle. Heat warnings are issued when very high temperature or humidity conditions are expected to pose an elevated risk of heat illnesses, such as heat stroke or heat exhaustion.”
