Labour Day closures, heat warning, world news

Foster’s Meats – Morning Coffee

Weather forecast for Monday, September 3, 2018

Today – A mix of sun and cloud with 60 percent chance of showers. Risk of a thunderstorm. Wind becoming west 20 km/h gusting to 40 this afternoon. High 31. Humidex 41. UV index 8 or very high.

Tonight – Clearing late this evening. Wind west 20 km/h gusting to 40 becoming light this evening. Low 20.

Heat warning continues

A heat event will continue through Wednesday, forecasters say.

“A hot and very humid airmass will continue to affect the regions for the first part of the week. Maximum daytime temperatures near 31 degrees are generally expected through Wednesday with humidex values near or above 41. Overnight minimum temperatures will likely remain near 21 degrees providing little relief from the heat,” Environment Canada officials said.

“Scattered showers and thunderstorms are possible each day which could prevent maximum daytime highs reaching 31 every day. However, maximum daily humidex values are still expected to be near 41. A cold front is expected to move through Wednesday night bringing an end to the hot and humid weather.”

The risks are greater for young children, pregnant women, older adults, people with chronic illnesses and people working or exercising outdoors.

Never leave people or pets inside a parked vehicle.

Heat warnings are issued when very high temperature or humidity conditions are expected to pose an elevated risk of heat illnesses, such as heat stroke or heat exhaustion.
