Arrest made after tablets stolen

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege on April 25 a man attended Shopper’s Drug Mart on Grand Avenue in Chatham and stole four tablets from the electronics display.

The man fled the store prior to police arrival.

Through investigation, police identified the man responsible and a warrant was issued for his arrest.

Shortly after 3 a.m. Wednesday morning, an officer on general patrol initiated a traffic stop on Harvey Street.

The man was located in the passenger seat and arrested in connection with the shoplifting incident.

Upon being searched incident to arrest, the man was found to be in possession of marijuana.

The 23-year-old Walpole Island man has been charged with theft under $5,000, being in possession of property obtained by a crime under $5,000 and drug possession.

He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.
