Battling the fear of terrorism

From The Pastor’s Pen – By Brian Horrobin

This week marks the 17th anniversary of the terrorist attacks on New York City and Washington, DC that rocked our world and forever changed the way we live.

Fear is a terrible thing and it can absolutely paralyze a person from carrying on in a normal way.

Those awful terrorist attacks back on September 11, 2001 have been followed up many times over in the years since in other places around the world.

Despite increased measures to insure safety for people at airports, large sporting events, and other places of heavy population, there are still these outbreaks of vicious killings happening to many innocent people.

The Lord does not want us to live in fear of anything, whether it be terrorist attacks, a bad report from the doctor, or a spider crawling across your bedroom floor!

Look what it says in Psalm 46:1-2: “God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, even though the earth be removed, and though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea.”

Making God our focus in these unsettled times will help shift our thoughts from fear to faith, and realize that the God of the universe can handle the problems and issues that we cannot.

One main consequence of fear is that it paralyzes a person and keeps them from enjoying the life God has given them.

Jesus said this in John 10:10: “The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.”

I don’t know about you, but I like Jesus’ way a whole lot more than living in fear and dread.

Let’s take Him up on His offer!
