1,700 people are needed to break the Guinness World Record for the World’s Largest Egg and Spoon Race.

This world record challenge will be held on Tuesday, September 18, at the World Records Tent at the 2018 International Plowing Match and Rural Expo (IPM 2018) in the Village of Pain Court, Chatham-Kent, Ontario.

Registration of racers starts at 1:30 p.m. and the race is at 2 p.m. Spoons will be provided, and Egg Farmers of Ontario has kindly provided the eggs.

“Be in on the world record action,” stated Donna Lunn, projects co-ordinator with the Ontario Plowmen’s Association.

“Chatham-Kent people are leaders in many ways, and Tuesday September 18th is clearly the occasion for them to show valour, turn out in large numbers and challenge the world for supremacy in the very competitive World’s Largest Egg and Spoon Race.”

The race is one of several world record challenges being hosted September 18-22 during IPM 2018.

On Wednesday, watch as Chef Bob Blumer leads an attempt to establish the record for Largest Caesar cocktail − it needs to be at least 500 litres in size.

Thursday will see the Most People Bobbing for Apples at One Time (10:30 a.m.) and two artists competing for the World’s Tallest Sugar Cube Structure (12 p.m.).

Several IPM records will be attempted as well.

Be sure to check out the Longest Quilt Binding, on display inside the World Records Tent.

On Saturday, be sure to catch the Fire Truck Parade, courtesy of Chatham-Kent FireFest organizers.

It’s expected to arrive at the IPM at about 11 a.m. and vehicles will be on display until 3 p.m. At 1:30 p.m. Saturday, join in as we establish an IPM record for Most People Eating Corn on The Cob at One Time.

From September 18-22, IPM 2018 will attract more than 80,000 visitors to a five-day agricultural celebration that will showcase Chatham-Kent’s important agriculture, business and tourism activities.

It will feature plowing competitions, a wide range of performers, displays, demonstrations, education and much more.
