Hugo Ramos, who is originally from the Central American country, is holding a fundraiser on September 27 at James Street Eatery in downtown Wallaceburg.

“It is a fundraiser for a little educational program in El Salvador,” Ramos told the Sydenham Current.

“It is for a little fishing village… they basically have nothing there. So we are trying to give a little bit of education to the youth, so they don’t migrate. This is one of those little villages where all the people are fleeing and they are coming to the border in the United States and they are splitting people there with kids. This is one of those places.”

Ramos added: “I am trying give them a little bit of education at the place so they can stay there and see if they can improve their life there. So what I am aiming is for one thing for it to get a little better and for another one, who wants a bad experience for their family. Some people get it and some people don’t get it but that’s the idea anyway.

Ramos said he plans in attending the village in December.

“To see if I can start this program with this village,” he said.

“It is totally free for the kids to come, so hopefully we can fundraise a couple of bucks.”

Ramos said the event on the 27th will include an ‘open mic’.

“If you know anybody who wants to show a talent, send them my way,” he said.

“We are charging $25 for it but there is some appetizers there and the first drink also.”

Ramos said there will be some entertainment and he will be providing a presentation as well.

“So people see where that money is going to and then see if we can help,” he said.

“Some people tell me ‘yeah well, we have necessities here’ (in Wallaceburg) and I say ‘yeah well, I volunteer here too’.”

For tickets, call Ramos at 519-312-9846 or pop into James Street Eatery.
