Walpole Island firefighters save trapped puppies

Some newborn puppies are safe and sound, thanks to a handful of Walpole Island firefighters.

The Walpole Island Fire Department were called to recover four newborn puppies from inside a culvert on Wednesday evening.

Charles Wright Sr., the Chief of the Walpole Island Fire Department, said on social media that Matthew Thomas, Kyle Oliphant and Jason Holloway, with help of community member Robert Myers, worked together to extricate the pups.

“Matt worked his way into the culvert under the watchful eyes of his helpers and one by one recovered the pups,” Wright said.

“The owners as well as some children were happy to hold the puppies following the rescue. We are happy to announce the puppies are doing well with their mother.”
