Stuck dog rescued at Patterson Motors in Wallaceburg

Staff at Patterson Motors in Wallaceburg came to the rescue after a dog became stuck underneath the dashboard of a local resident’s vehicle.

Jennifer Day told the Sydenham Current she was getting ready the leave her house last month, when she noticed her dog was stuck.

“She had gotten out of the house and she thought she was going for a car ride,” Day said.

“I hopped in and she had lodged herself up in my dash… behind the glove compartment and everything.”

Day said she didn’t know what to do.

“Do I call the Fire Department? What should I do? I remember my uncle Charlie had posted Matt (Thomas) saving dogs the other night on Walpole, so I called Patterson Motors and asked if Matt was available.”

Day said she explained her dilemma to the Patterson Motors staff.

“They asked if I could drive over, and I thought what if she comes out or falls. So I get here and (Matt) is trying everything. So he had to take the whole front compartment out of my Journey,” she said.

“It took a while to take everything a part and put back together…. but she is fine. She’s a little bit scared, but she’s good, she’s safe.”

Thomas said he was baffled when he first saw the dog stuck in the vehicle.

“I couldn’t believe what I was seeing,” Thomas said on social media.

“The dog had jumped up from under the dash on top of the heater box on drivers side and made it’s way towards the glove box where it got stuck. Rick Kerr and I had quickly removed the whole dash to get the dog out. The dog is safe and is doing well after some water and treats from Bonnie Patterson. No charge to customer and they couldn’t be happier.”

Day said she would’ve been lost if it wasn’t for their crew.

“I’m thankful to Patterson’s for allowing two of their workers to spend their time. I didn’t know what to do.”
