Wallaceburg’s Madison Broad will be bringing home some hardware from the Youth Olympic Games being held in Argentina.

Broad placed second in the women’s 200-metre backstroke with a time of 2:10.32 on Tuesday, October 9, 2018.

“It’s beautiful and kinda heavy,” the 18-year-old Chatham Y Pool Sharks swimmer said about her medal in a tweet by the Canadian Olympic Team.

Broad went into the 200-metre backstroke final ranked fifth, the same position she secured the day before in the 100-metre distance.

However, a quick start allowed Broad to clock a time of 2:10.32 seconds to finish 0.19 seconds behind the Republic of Moldova’s Tatiana Salcutan.

The bronze went to Australia’s Kaylee McKeown.

Broad has a chance at another podium, as she will race in the 50-metre backstroke heats on Wednesday.
