Aarkel holds job fair in Wallaceburg

Management with Aarkel Tool and Die are happy with the turnout, after holding a job fair on Tuesday, October 30 at the Knights of Columbus hall in Wallaceburg.

“Overall we feel that the we enjoyed good results with well over 60 applicants and job seekers presenting their resumes to us for consideration,” Tony Myers, the human resources manager at Aarkel, told the Sydenham Current.

“Many of the applicants hold promise in filling the number of open positions that we currently have at all levels and in a various trades and will have in the near future. This participation demonstrates a community of eligible employees that are anxious to join a company that can provide an environment that is secure with a rewarding and satisfying career.”

Myers said Aarkel is looking to fill about 15 positions currently.

“It seems like we are always looking,” he said.

“We could expand that number to 30 over the next little while with expansion, continued increase in volumes and with attrition of course with people, unfortunately our trade is getting a little older because there was a lag in the industry for a while and now we’re playing catch up.”

Myers said Aarkel has expanded their volumes in the last three or four years.

“That puts more demand on our people,” he said.

“We want them to have the opportunity to work as many hours as they like, within the legal limit, but also we don’t want to burden them to the point where they have too many hours, it works both ways.”

If people in the community were unable to attend the job fair on Tuesday, Myers said he encourages them to submit their resume.

“They can go to our Internet location, they can send emails to HR itself, or they can drop resumes off at head office at 17 Elm Drive here in Wallaceburg or they can email them to me personally at tmyers@aarkel.com. All good ways to get it in. If you know somebody that is in the building, give it to them, they’ll drop it off for you. They won’t mind because they may get a referral.”

Myers said AarKel will continue to grow and expand its foot print as an international supplier to the tool and die, mold making and machining industries.

“With the continued training and development of tradesmen and a variety of support staff relative to our industry,” Myers added.
