Making the best of your lot in life

From The Pastor’s Pen – By Brian Horrobin

Legendary college basketball coach, John Wooden, once said: “Things turn out best for the people who make the best of the way things turn out.”

You may not be able to make lemonade out of every lemon in life, but you can still salvage something… if your attitude is right.

There’s no doubt that having a plan and then sticking to it is ideal, but then what do you do when something comes up that interrupts your nice, neat little plan?

My youngest son bought tickets in advance for rides on the midway at this year’s Brigden Fair.

Unfortunately, when the day came to use them he realized that he had left them in his wallet, which he had forgotten at a family Thanksgiving event two hours out of town.

He and his friend were quite frustrated about this misfortune but decided to do other things that day.

They ended up getting deals on food, since it was the last day at the fair, and they even made some money helping a vendor pack up his stuff.

When I went to pick him up he talked my ear off with delight about how the day went, and yet all I could think of was how the day likely was ruined due to the missed opportunity at the midway.

Nope!

The day did not go as planned but he and his friend made the best of it and had a great time because of their attitude change.

The Lord wants us to do the same in our relationships because when we choose to adapt and have a good attitude it rubs off on those around us.

Who knows?

You could just be the catalyst to someone else’s turnaround.

All is not lost if you can learn to adapt and make the most out of changed plans.
