Pray for those in uniform

From The Pastor’s Pen – By Brian Horrobin

Today is a very important day for us here in Canada.

Even though the stores have been promoting Christmas for a while now, and cut-rate Halloween candy may still be on store shelves, it is time to step back and remember those who have fought and died serving our country and helping us to achieve the freedom we now enjoy in this great land.

Even at this very time there are men and women of uniform deployed in our country, and in many other countries of the world, serving on peacekeeping missions and other tours of military duty.

There is a high price, too, as these brave soldiers fulfill their duty for months at a time, away from their families, and so often in danger of their lives.

Here is what we can do right here in our wonderful, war-free community.

We can pray for them.

Psalm 91 is a wonderful passage of Scripture that talks about God’s protection.

Consider verses 11 and 12: “For He shall give His angels charge over you, to keep you in all your ways. In their hands they shall bear you up, lest you dash your foot against a stone.”

Aren’t those words comforting?

As you pray for our military personnel serving here and oversees, get a picture in your mind of the angels of God surrounding them and protecting them from harm’s way.

This is a great way to show honour and support to our Canadian troops on this Remembrance Day, but it would be even better if we made it a habit to do on a regular basis.

Take some time today to give thanks for our men and women of uniform and to pray for their safety.
