Holiday Train with Sam Roberts stopping in Chatham-Kent

Beginning in Montreal on November 25 and 27, two trains will make the journey to raise money, food and awareness for local food banks and food shelves in Canada and the U.S.

“It is a privilege for CP to be able to run a program like this and connect with so many communities across our network. I want to personally thank each individual who has made a donation over the past 20 years – your collective efforts have made the Holiday Train a huge success for two decades,” stated Keith Creel, CP’s President and Chief Executive Officer.

Each event is free, with CP encouraging attendees to open their cupboards and wallets to help address hunger needs in their communities. Local food banks will be accepting donations at each stop to ensure those less fortunate have enough healthy food this holiday season.

There are two trains in Canada.

The U.S.-bound train departs Montreal on November 25 travelling south with stops in Quebec, New York and Southern Ontario before continuing it’s journey through the U.S. and into southern Saskatchewan for its final stop in Weyburn, Saskatchewan on Dec. 16.

The Canadian Train departs Montreal on November 27 travelling west through Ontario, Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta, and British Columbia for it’s final show of the 2018 CP Holiday Train tour in Port Coquitlam on December 18.

The Holiday Train will arrive in Chatham-Kent on Friday.

Here are the details:

Sam Roberts Band and Jo Jo Mason will be performing on the Chatham stop.

Sam Roberts Band is a rock band based out of Montreal, Canada. On October 5, 2018, Sam Roberts announced the worldwide deluxe reissue of the Juno Award-winning debut album We Were Born In A Flame. The 2018 edition marks fifteen years since the album was first released in 2003 and includes original demos and previously unheard songs with an entire extra disc added for both CD and vinyl editions remastered by one of Canada’s most distinguished sound engineer’s, JoĂŁo Carvalho.

“We are looking forward to riding on the CP Holiday Train, spreading some holiday cheer, and hoping those who come to the show bring food or cash donations for their local food bank!”

JoJo’s music is about having fun, appreciating life and sharing stories. It is passionately country, but with no fear of a deep groove, fresh lyric or original melody. He will charm you with his personality, wow you with his beat boxing, earn your respect with his work ethic, inspire you with his character and compassion, elicit a smile with his message but most importantly, JoJo will sweep you off your feet with his voice. From a moonshine slinging, shower singing prairie boy to Canada’s next country music sensation.

“I can honestly say I’ve never been on a train before!! I couldn’t think of a better way to spend my Christmas holidays than spreading the gift of music in as many places as we can aboard the CP Holiday Train! BEST CHRISTMAS HOLIDAY EVER!”

Parking options for CP holiday train event

The CP holiday train is coming to Chatham-Kent on Friday, November 30 at 2:30 p.m.

The train will stop behind the John D Bradley Chatham-Kent Convention Centre.

The Sam Roberts Band and JoJo Mason will perform from the train itself from 2:45 to 3:15 p.m.

Extra vehicular and pedestrian traffic is expected in the Richmond Street/Keil Drive area of Chatham and CK Police will be on-hand directing traffic.

Motorists and pedestrians are asked for patience on Friday afternoon, and to find alternative routes if they aren’t planning to attend the event.

There is limited parking available onsite at the Convention Centre but residents are asked to leave as many places as possible for families with small children and those with mobility issues. Washroom facilities are also available at this location.

Thanks to the support of local business owners, additional parking is available at the following locations:

– A lot owned by Campbell Toyota on Keil Drive (see attached map for details)

– The former Target Store on Grand Avenue.

The estimated walk time from the Campbell Toyota lot is five to seven minutes while the former Target store is a 15 to 20 minute walk.

“What an amazing event to come to our community; we want Chatham-Kent to always be a stop on everyone’s journey,” stated Mayor-Elect Darrin Canniff.

“The CP Holiday Train will draw large numbers of attendees, including many children, and I thank everyone for their cooperation in making this a great, safe event.”
