Wallaceburg author publishes two children’s books

Wallaceburg’s Deborah Odette, a.k.a ‘Gramma Deb’, is a local author who recently self published two children’s Christmas books – ‘Hermie Wormsworth and the Missing Christmas Book’ and ‘Hermie Wormsworth and the Search for the Christmas Orb’.

“Over the years, I have really enjoyed writing,” Odette told the Sydenham Current.

“I have always liked to write but I mostly wrote poetry. I just have always been interested in trying to write something for children.”

Odette said the inspiration for doing children’s books came from her grandchildren.

“Hermie Wormsworth is dedicated to my oldest grandson Andre,” she said, adding that the first book in the series was illustrated by her 14-year-old granddaughter, Skylar.

Odette said the lead character ‘Hermie Wormsworth’ is an inch worm who desperately wishes to be a book worm and a librarian.

Hermie’s journey begins at the Wallaceburg Library and the story takes you to the North Pole and even on Santa’s sleigh on Christmas Eve, Odette said.

“I don’t think I could have done this without my son,” she said, adding that her son helped her get published and set up an online presence for her.

“I mean, he has been my rock.”

Odette said she is holding a reading and book signing at the Wallaceburg Branch of the Chatham-Kent Public Library on Saturday, December 15 from 10:30 a.m. to 12 p.m.

If you need a gift idea for the holidays, there will be paperback copies of her books for purchase.

Cost is $12 each or $20 for both.

The books can also be purchased on Amazon and Kobo.

Odette said she plans on publishing the next two books in this series by September or October of 2019.
