Significant rainfall expected on New Year’s Eve

Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement, as significant rainfall is expected to close out 2018.

“Rain will move into Southwestern Ontario this morning and spread eastward to reach the Golden Horseshoe in the afternoon,” forecasters say.

“The rain may fall heavily at times with amounts possibly reaching 25 millimetres. The rain should taper off to scattered showers in the southwest this evening and after midnight for the Golden Horseshoe.”

Environment Canada officials say localized ponding of water is possible in areas of poor drainage.
