Investigation launched after an alleged dog bite

Animal Control Services officials allege on Thursday, January 3 at around 2:30 p.m. a dog bite took place in the area of Sandys Street and McNaughton Avenue in Chatham.

It is alleged that the dog ran across McNaughton Avenue and attempted to go after a dog being walked.

The dog owner attempted to save his dog from being attacked and as a result the 64-year-old man received serious injuries to his left hand.

He attended the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance.

Animal Control Services officials say the dog owner has been located and the dog, a male American Bulldog, has been taken into the care of Pet and Wildlife Rescue.

There is no public safety concern, Animal Control Services officials say.
