Earlier this week Chatham-Kent Crime Stopper volunteers and Mayor Darrin Canniff raised the Crime Stoppers flag to mark the beginning of Crime Stoppers Month across Canada.

Chatham-Kent Crime Stoppers has enjoyed a very successful and productive 2018, says Board Chair Angie Shreve.

“Through the combined efforts of tipsters, the media, police agencies and the hard work of our Board members many incidents were successfully investigated and solved,” Shreve said in a media release.

“In 2018 the program received 805 tips which lead to 156 case being cleared, resulting in 106 arrests and 161 charges laid. The program was successful in seizing $258,808 in drugs and stolen property. Crime Stoppers also recovered 18 stolen vehicles, 18 weapons and located 8 wanted persons.”

“Crime Stoppers has been an important part of our community for more than 30 years,” Maypr Canniff said in a press release.

“The work they do is invaluable. The volunteer board members and the program make Chatham-Kent a better place to live.”

The Board will be hosting two free skates this month on Sunday January 13 from 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the Thames Campus Arena and on Sunday January 20 from 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Bothwell Arena.

Crime Stoppers will also be acting a co-host for this months Chamber of Commerce Business After Hours on Wednesday January 16 at the Shore Bar and Grill.
