Extreme cold warning in place

Environment Canada has issued an extreme cold warning for Southern Ontario including all areas in Chatham-Kent.

A prolonged period of cold is expected tonight through to Friday morning, with temperatures ranging from -20°C to -25°C with wind chills between -30°C to -35°C. The high on Wednesday is expected to remain close to -21°C. Conditions are expected to improve by Friday as milder air moves into the region.

All branches of the Chatham-Kent Public Library will be open tomorrow, Wednesday January 30th, to provide a warm location for anyone needing to get out of the cold.

For branches normally closed on Wednesdays, Library hours will now be as follows:

Bothwell: Noon until 5:00 pm
Tilbury: Noon until 5:00 pm
Ridgetown: Noon until 5:00 pm
Merlin: Noon until 5:00 pm

Extended hours will be offered tomorrow at the following branches:

Blenheim: 10:00 am until 5:00 pm
Wheatley: 10:00 am until 5:00 pm

The following branches will be open their regular hours, ready to greet individuals needing a warm location:

Thamesville: 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm
Highgate: 3:00 pm until 8:00 pm
Dresden: Noon until 5:00 pm
Wallaceburg: 10:00 am until 6:00 pm
Chatham: 9:30 am until 8:30 pm

Municipal officials say they are always happy to see people at the library; staff are happy to open the doors tomorrow to help on one of the coldest days of the year.
