2019 Frank Dymock Classic coming up in Wallaceburg

The divisions and teams have been finalized and the schedule is now set for the 2019 Frank Dymock Class hockey tournament.

“This year we are excited to announce a 23 team registration across the Atom, Peewee & Bantam Divisions,” organizers with the Wallaceburg Minor Hockey Association said in an online post.

“With games being played at both the Walpole Sports Complex and Wallaceburg Memorial Arena we hope you can join us for some competitive, fun hockey, free of charge.”

Organizers say there will be vendors, professional photography, a raffle table, large bake sale as well as a hockey jersey and money draws.

“Come out and show your support while participating in this great event,” organizers say.

“Don’t forget to join us Sunday at 3 p.m. before the finals to help celebrate and remember Frank with the Dymock family.”

The group is still looking for people to donate to their bake sale. Items can be dropped off anytime on Friday, February 15 between 10 a.m. and 8 p.m. and Saturday. February 16 between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m.

“Frank is a big part of Wallaceburg, a big name in Wallaceburg… anybody that has been on the ice before or has laced up skates, knows Frank,” Tom Cogghe, director of tournaments, told the Sydenham Current back in 2015.

“In 2008, they started the tournament in honour of Frank. He was always at the tournaments, always sat in the press box and watched the kids play. He loved being there.”

Cogghe said Frank would always make sure every kid that participated in the tournament received a souvenir puck after the tournament.

“That is one thing that we are carrying on,” he said. “Frank was adamant that he wanted all the kids to get pucks every year. So every kid that comes in the tournament, players, coaches, anybody involved, they get a puck. We’re trying to carry on that tradition.”
