Explicit online requests leads to charges

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: On January 2, 2019 a teen entered into a Probation Order with several conditions.

One of those conditions stated that he was not to possess or use any computer or device that has Internet access.

Another condition stated that he was not to contact anyone under the age of 18 years using any device that has Internet access.

On January 20, 2019 the teen sent messages through the Internet using Snapchat to a 16-year-old girl offering to pay money for explicit photos of her 16-year-old boyfriend.

The teen also sent messages directly to the boyfriend using Snapchat asking him to perform sexual acts.

Neither complied with his requests and police were notified.

Yesterday morning, the 17-year-old Chatham teen was arrested and charged with communicating for the purposes of obtaining sexual services and two counts of failing to comply with his Probation Order.

He was released pending a future court date of March 4, 2019.

The Chatham-Kent Police Service would like to remind parents to be vigilant about their child’s online activity.

Having conversations with your child about their online safety is important.
